I've always loved film noir. Some of my earliest memories are of watching thrillers like Maltese Falcon, Double Indemnity and other great black and white films late at night with my mother.
When LA Confidential came out I was dismayed that it lost Best Picture to Titanic.
I even took a film class about noir where I did my final paper on the neo-noir themes in Blood Simple. Not sure if this is unpopular or not but Netflix and Prime Video are mediocre and overrated. Since some months ago I've been feeling really tired while trying to binge something worth to watch on both platforms. Things went a little better when someone built FIXABLE, a search site to make it easier to browse what’s available on Netflix (and to see what’s new and what’s leaving).
But the real problem persisted: the lack of content — great content —, stories and productions well made, with great plots and twists, without the masturbatory marketing that surround the mega productions nowadays. So I came up with an extravagant idea: log in into my amazon account to order amazing and well known movies and books of the genre, from The Big Sleep to The Long Goodbye.
I love everything about noir. The use of chiaroscuro, the stark camera angles, the cool lines of dialogue and even cooler delivery. After horror, it's probably my favorite genre and I feel ashamed for not having watched it in a while.
Now that I’m receiving from Amazon this marvelous boxes my watchlist can become a near full-time job just keeping up.
I’m fine with that.
It will be great to recommend us top 5 films/books to get start in the noir
